As June continues some esports organisations continue to flaunt their involvement with the Saudi Arabian state while aalso attempting to market LGBT causes. First up, Team Liquid.
first article of yours i’ve read after watching your youtube videos for a few months. great write up about a truly embarrassing and shameful moment for these organizations. thank you for the read and hope you are having a good weekend 🤝
It is just absurd how no company that is partnered is giving comment and everyone is just fine with it. Everytime a minor incident happens, people instantly call for a boycott of any brand but so far I have not seen any outrage regarding their involvement into saudi esports business.
Great article. Love how you simply hold up a mirror to these esport organisation owners and hear them shrieking in disgust on the sight of their own ugly heads. Keep it up.
The other co-CEO of Team Liquid is Steve Arhancet, who I believe recently officially came out in a tweet with a paragraph starting, "As a gay man..." Thorin and Monte said it's been an open secret behind the scenes. Steve runs the Riot games like League of Legends and Valorant, and I wonder how that will work. If the worst happen and an accident were to occur while Steve was over there, could Liquid still rationalize being part of the EWC?
Truly shameful conduct by TL. I admire their sporting ventures, their battles with peak Astralis were so exciting.
But now they have resorted to lying, gaslighting and defending a regime that would happily imprison and torture their employees if they showed an ounce of their sexuality or gender in the country. And all of this for more money that they can throw down a drain like they did with VC money and then with crypto and gambling money.
Really feels like esports has become a business of selling one's soul for profit at any cost rather than building up a video games' scene that is sustainable with some view given to core values of inclusivity and decency.
Thank you for holding their feet to the fire Rich, you've been a stalwart of the industry for as long as I have watched esports. I am so glad I signed up the second I saw you announcing OPBAF on youtube. Thank you for the article, and hope you have a great weekend!

Same here
It’s a harrowing watch; all the lies performed in this beat-down tone that convinces no one. Why even bother making that video?

Nice stuff Rich, keep holding the shitbags to account
i dont know what is worse: how dumb these execs think we are or how dumb most esports fans are to actually eat this up

Dude your alting is so dumb.
That said, I agree with your alt on inclusivity being a tenant of what it means to be a gamer.
