When it comes to the battle for LGBT recognition in esports, the total takeover by the Saudi Arabian state and their esports allies has ensured we'll all be home by Christmas
I know your focus is on Esports, but as an American, I barely see any Pride advertising in general anymore the last couple of years. It used to be everywhere. Now it seems like Corporations can't even be bothered to pretend anymore.
Perhaps I am ignorant but, I have never understood why the LGBTQ community have put so much weight into Pride month advertisements from all these corporations.
Usually this community is left leaning and more vocal about the issues with capitalism. Although, they also often calls out the clearly soulless pandering to their cause for the sake of doing what is popular at the time (e.g. Pepsi).
It’s not surprising to see the advertisement budgets cut back on for pride month over the last few years.
If I had to guess, I'd say the logic goes something like this:
-> they're promoting causes
-> it must be important to them
-> they stop promoting causes
-> it's no longer important
-> it probably never was
-> they were just using the cause for clout
-> feel betrayed
-> does anyone even care
In other words, I would guess they care less about the advertising itself and more about the message being sent by the fact they stopped the support associated with that advertising
As far as I'm aware, it has not been "where are your tweets to us, your rainbow overlords?". The timeline follows more that these companies never stood up for pride when the community most needed support, back when you could lose your job or be shunned from your community by being gay. The companies started tweeting rainbows far after it became widely accepted to be gay, in order to make more money. Then they threw it all away as soon as they got the Saudi bag.
Faze actually backtracking to try to hide something seemingly silly like a tweet just to appease their new overlords is a perfect example showing how big of a change this really is.
Combined with the final paragraph - another brilliant article, thanks for sharing.
Request: Is it possible to screenshot the twitter links for those of us who don't have an account? Daddy Elon has made it hard to view posts unless you're logged in.

Banger last paragraph, pride in all its forms truly is dead in esports
That last sentence goes incredibly hard. Great article as always!

Banger last line
Clearly just all convenient coincidences lol maybe next year. Great article highlighting the hypocrisy
